Through research the DRF is unfolding the mysteries that
surround diabetes. Questions like.....
- Is diabetes in our genes ??
- Can we prevent diabetes ??
- Can we reverse diabetes ??
- Can we stop compications from developing ??
Research helps us solve these questions and gives us hope.
We believe research is the only way forward and we would like you to be a part of it.
What we are doing ?
In 2005 the DRFWA helped establish the Centre for Diabetes Research which now has over 20 researchers working together with world-wide researchers.
We want to find a cure by 2020 !!
Here are some of our current research projects:
Uncovering the genetic links of type 1 diabetes
Understanding the environment and diabetes
Understanding how diabetic retinopathy (blindness) develops
Understanding young people and diabetes
Preventing complications of diabetes including nephropathy (kidney failure)
