The Centre for Diabetes Research

The Centre for Diabetes Research (the Centre) is an initiative of the DRF's and was established in 2005 to strengthen research in Western Australia into diabetes.

Professor Grant Morahan (mapped the first gene associated with type 1 diabetes) and his team conduct world-class research into the many aspects of diabetes. Professor Morahan collaborates with a number of researchers around the world and is dedicated to finding a cure soon.

Some research projects at the Centre include:
  • Identifying those at risk of developing diabetes
  • Retinopathy (eye disease)
  • Nephropathy (kidney disease)
  • Regeneration of insulin producing cells

Professor Morahan gives an update from the Centre here.
